Batam is the second most visited city in Indonesia – a close second to Bali.
Batam is a small Indonesian Island very close to Singapore. A day tour to the island would give a glimpse of Indonesia.
My jump off to Batam from Singapore is Harbourfront Ferry Terminal. The boat ride to
Batam is about 40 minutes. There is an Immigration Clearance before exiting Singapore.
Upon arrival in Batam, I went through customs and immigration clearance. Same is true when leaving Batam and entering Singapore. So in a day, I had 4 immigration stamps in my passport.
The day trip includes visit to
Starmoon Bake Shop – a local industry famous for Kek Lapis.
Vihara Duta Maitreya – the biggest Buddhist Temple in Southeast Asia
China Town – well, they are everywhere around the world
Ralph Lauren Factory Outlet – for really good buy
Go Kart Park – their version of go carts made of rubber tires
Miniature Indonesian Village – replica of Indonesian Houses measuring about 5 feet tall
Lunch is served at Golden Prawn Seafood Restaurant.
Just beside the restaurant is Kuda Lumping – a local performance showcasing the local’s dancing skills, opening coconut with bare teeth, live coal and glass eating, and a lot more. Tips are encouraged after the performance.
The last stop is a visit to a shopping mall.
