Myanmar | Bagan Temples | Top Places To See In Bagan

All these photos were taken when I traveled solo to Myanmar on October 3-7, 2011.  To get to Bagan from the Philippines, I flew to Kuala Lumpur. From Kuala Lumpur I flew to Yangon (the Capital City of Myanmar).  From Yangon, I took a bus to Bagan.

Bagan is temple-full. Temples here are as far as the eyes can not see. There are thousands of temples, stupas and pagodas here and some are centuries old. I just wish that one day, Bagan will be inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    • hi. i got my ticket direct from the bus station in yangon. just tell the cab driver you want to get a ticket going to bagan. you may opt to have the train but the train station in bagan is about 30 mins away from the town proper. at first i wanted to take the train but there where mechanical problems that time so it did run. bus is cheaper by 50%. the bus departs in the evening, around 7pm and arrives 5am in bagan. buses are korean over-runs so they are relatively comfortable. free toothbrush, tissue and bottled water is provided in the bus. travel time is about 10 hours. they have stop over for meals. at bagan bus station, you can hire bicycle or a horse cart. i opted the later because i wanted a tour guide. i started then my tour at 5am as i wanted to see sunrise over the plains of temples. you can do everything in bagan in a day. but if you want to spend a night, its awesome. hotel rates are same as yangon. there is a good one near the tharabar gate. they have good resto as well. bagan is very very very awesome. i hope it remains that way. 🙂

    • i forgot the bus company. but they all charge the same amount. there are 3 bus companies that time. they have several trips in a day. i got my ticket on the same day i traveled. about an hour before it departed. however, just to be sure, i advise you to get your tkt ahead of time. i booked my hotel perhaps 2 months prior to arrival 🙂

    • buses depart as early as 4pm from bagan to yangon. the one i took before was 6PM which i think is the last trip. in burma, there are lots of tourists. almost all passengers in the bus are tourists. so that should comfort you more to visit burma 🙂

  1. Went to Yangon last December and it was an awesome trip. We didn’t go to Bagan though our tour guide told it would take a whole day trip to get there. By the way, how did you get your visa? We were given visas on arrival because my friend and I were under MTV Exit to attend Jason Mraz concert. But how about regular tourists?
